Skunks
Preventing, Repelling, Eliminating Skunks
Smell repellents such as moth balls or Rid-A-Critter (a professional repellent) are only
effective as a skunk deterrent, but rarely work once a skunk has established itself in a
territory. If you have one of these pests actively foraging on your property, there
are a variety of control options at your disposal; one or more can be necessary and each
situation is different.
- Repelling: Skunks will feed on a variety of foods: fruits, garbage and
also grubs, worms, small insects in your lawn. If skunks are feeding on food growing
on your property or raiding your garbage bins, you can use Ropel. This professional
strength taste deterrent is applied directly to any object the skunks like to smell or
taste. Repeat applications might be necessary to discourage stubborn animals.
- Your other alternative is to use a
humane, live trap to capture and re-locate the offending skunk. The trap needed for
this job is called a Raccoon Trap by
professionals. A newer trap that is being incorporated into
trapping of Raccoons, Armadillos, cats and others is the Universal
Trap.
